COURSE OVERVIEW

The Level 2 City and Guilds UK qualification in Food and Beverage Service is being taught at The British College in partnership XCEL International Education.

This qualification is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in hospitality, and is specifically targeted at those who have an interest in the catering industry. By undertaking this Technical Certificate students will learn skills and techniques required to deliver food and beverage services to guests and customers in a variety of establishments and settings - including hotels, restaurants, and private and specialist events.

Applicants do not need any experience to apply, but they must be at least 18 years old. Throughout the course students will learn in a group environment, and will be taught by expert XIE trainers in our fully equipped kitchen and restaurant - via lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.


COURSE CONTENT

Throughout the course, students will learn:

- How to work safely
- Menu knowledge
- Food and Beverage Service
- Food and beverage Product Knowledge
- Food and Beverage Business Finance.


ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed using practical assignments where they will be required to demonstrate their ability to deliver food and beverage services. Students will also be required to complete an assignment in the form of a short answer test covering the background knowledge essential to the food and beverage industry.

These assignments are set by City & Guilds and marked by staff within the centre using City & Guilds marking guidance.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This qualification has been designed to help students to progress within their current positions or alternatively to secure a job as:

- Front of house
- Food and beverage staff
- Waiting staff
- Bar staff
- Host or hostess

These roles could be undertaken in a range of establishments where guests wish to have different dining experiences: including independent, chain, and fine dining restaurants; hotels of all sizes; and contract catering at conferences and events.

FURTHER STUDIES

If students wish to advance further in the hospitality sector, on completion of the course they can continue onto an additional qualification offered by City and Guilds at The British College.

This includes a fully functioning kitchen and restaurant, where students will be able to train and practice.

QUALIFICATION

    At the end of the course students will receive a food and beverage service certificate along with a letter of recommendation.

    Students will have three options when receiving their certification:

  • Xcel Education International Certificate in association with The British College

  • City & Guilds Certificate (This is required to attempt the assessment test and will incur additional assessment charges)

  • Alternatively, students can receive both if they pay the relevant fees
