COURSE OVERVIEW

The Level 2 City and Guilds UK qualification in Professional Bartending is being taught at The British College in partnership Xcel International Education.

Students on this course will have two options - and can even specialise in just cocktails or alternatively in cocktails with free pouring. This Award has been designed for people who are either already working in the bartending industry, or would like to enter into the field.

For those who are new to the skill, the course will teach them the knowledge and skills needed to secure a job as a professional bartender. And for those who already have experience, this course will hone their skills, teach them new tricks, and provide them with the qualification they need to progress further in their careers.

Applicants do not need any experience to apply, but they must be at least 18 years old. Throughout the course students will learn in a group environment, and will be taught by expert XIE trainers in our fully equipped kitchen and restaurant - via lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Throughout the course, along with - recipes and cocktail making techniques, students will learn how to prepare cocktails, provide a high standard of customer service, use and clean equipment, and prepare the bar for service. They will also be taught about alcohol responsibility, providing beer, wine and spirit services. And for those who choose to specialise, there will be additional teaching on the art of free pouring.

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed using practical assignments where they will be required to demonstrate their ability to both prepare and serve drinks. Students will also be required to complete an assignment in the form of a short answer test covering the background knowledge essential to bartending.

Learners completing the Award in Professional Bartending (Cocktails) will complete 1 assignment, while those taking the Award in Professional Bartending (Cocktails with free pouring) will complete 2 assignments.

These assignments are set by City & Guilds and marked by staff within the centre using City & Guilds marking guidance.
